Today, exactly one month before the US midterm elections, President Trump will hold a rally in Topeka, Kansas.

Trump will campaign for Kris Kobach, the Republican candidate in the state’s hotly-contested gubernatorial election, and Steve Watkins, the congressional hopeful that is running neck and neck with his democratic challenger.

This year’s senatorial election map favours the GOP. The Democrats have 10 seats up for reelection in states carried by Trump in 2016, while most Republican seats up for grabs are in solidly red states. Though Democrats could make impressive gains in Arizona and Nevada, the Republicans have a shot at taking previously blue seats in Missouri, North Dakota and, possibly, New Jersey. Expect the GOP to maintain its slight majority in the upper house this November.

House elections, however, are a bit more favourable to the Democrats. With 68 highly competitive seats up for grabs, the Democrats only need to flip 23 Republican-held seats to retake the lower house. With Democratic candidates threatening to unseat numerous GOP incumbents throughout the country—especially in Kansas, Pennsylvania, Iowa and California—Trump’s efforts may not be enough to prevent the House from flipping blue next month.
