President-elect Donald Trump is going to face sentencing in hush money case on January 10th from New York court.

The New York court found Trump guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in May 2024, making him the first former president and president-elect convicted of a crime in U.S. history. However, the judge has indicated there will be no jail time, offering an unconditional discharge. While this ensures no immediate penalties, the conviction will remain, tarnishing Trump’s reputation. On this Wednesday, Trump asked the Supreme Court to block the sentencing in New York happening this Friday.

The case highlights the increasingly divided and hostile political landscape in Washington DC, marked by fierce partisan clashes and an entrenched establishment resistant to Trump’s disruptive influence. This dynamic is unlikely to dissipate, and Trump’s return to the White House will likely escalate tensions further. His agenda to overhaul Washington’s political system will inevitably clash with vested interests, fueling internal resistance and deepening divisions.

In the short term, Trump is unlikely to attend the sentencing and will likely pursue further legal appeals. Over the medium to long term, his second term could bring significant political turmoil, with his focus on settling scores and reshaping the system. Trump is likely to initiate investigations against his political opponents and judges who targeted him, further polarizing the U.S. political environment. These internal struggles will likely influence U.S. financial markets and foreign relations, with external strategies during Trump’s administration closely tied to the dynamics of domestic power struggles.
