Nepali Foreign Minister concludes visit to Thailand today

Nepali Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba concludes her visit to Thailand today.

Minister Deuba arrived in Thailand on Monday to chair the 81st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). The theme of the meeting is “Regional cooperation for resilient and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.” Delegations from countries in the region have been meeting to discuss development in the region, especially in relation to key issues like aging populations, urban poverty and inequality, and climate risks.

With Minister Deuba chairing the UNESCAP session, Nepal places itself at the center of discussions regarding sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific. Nepal, as a particularly climate-vulnerable country, is likely to continue to lead the region’s efforts to develop while simultaneously combating the climate crisis. Additionally, the UNESCAP meeting provides the basis for a strengthening of ties between Nepal and other countries in the region, as well as regional organizations like ASEAN. Increased cooperation of this type would aid Nepal’s development as well as provide the basis for multilateral collaboration on climate risks in the region, the region’s aging populations, and urban poverty and inequality
