Indian PM visits Japan to strengthen bilateral strategic and security cooperation
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tokyo today and tomorrow. He will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss the strengthening of security and strategic ties.
The two leaders will likely discuss developing a contract to engage in joint naval exercises and possibly army and air force exchanges. Japan is also interested in sharing its knowledge about the development of robotics and unmanned armoured vehicles with India. Already the two countries are planning to hold military counterterrorism exercises in November.
Modi and Abe will also likely discuss the Free and Open Indo-Pacific partnership. With Japan as the main manufacturer, this partnership centres on developing the maritime region surrounding India. Specifically, the leaders are expected to focus on constructing roads and ports between the two countries through Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar and possibly a high-speed railway between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Modi’s visit will likely lead to the expansion of India’s infrastructure and the strengthening of Japan’s regional influence.
