The 59th US presidential election will be held one year from today. A presidential candidate will needs 270 out of 538 electoral votes to win the race.

There are currently four Republicans—including President Donald Trump—and 17 Democratic presidential nominations for the upcoming election. The election will likely be shaped by the to-be-televised impeachment inquiry launched by the House of Representatives into Trump’s alleged request for foreign interference in the race.

Democrats hope to use the inquiry to highlight the president’s apparent misuse of his office and foreign policy to seek personal gain and damage competition. Trump can be expected to cite the healthy economy, particularly the strong employment numbers, as his key achievement while denouncing Democrats’ actions as impeding his efforts.

Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders are the Democratic frontrunners, with former vice president Biden leading the party’s more centrist wing and the latter two leading the progressives. Such divisions will likely split Democratic voters in the primaries, as was the case in 2016.
