White House likely to release second transcript of Trump’s call with Ukrainian leader
As part of the impeachment inquiry into US President Donald Trump, the White House will release the transcript of a second call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The transcript released today will detail a call Trump made to Zelensky in April to congratulate him on his election victory. While this call is not expected to contain any details on a quid pro quo, the White House has been reluctant to release it.
Moving forward, Republican strategy will likely be to demand testimony from various people they believe justify the President’s investigation into the Bidens on the basis of corruption and fraud. The Democrats, who are leading the impeachment inquiry, are hoping that acting Chief of Staff Nick Mulvaney and former National Security Advisor John Bolton will testify against the President.
While Democrats are moving forward with impeachment proceedings swiftly, the Republican’s tactic of going after the media as well as those linked to corruption in Ukraine have resulted in Trump’s polling numbers remaining relatively stagnant. On the other hand, Joe Biden polled at a record low 26% three days ago.
As proceedings unfold, expect Democratic candidates to use the upcoming public hearings in their critiques of the current administration’s involvement with Ukraine.
