Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will today visit India to assess the progress that the Green Strategic Partnership (GSP) has made since its implementation in 2020.

The Partnership is a bilateral agreement between Denmark and India to research and develop green solutions to energy, water, food agriculture, technology, and sustainable cities. The GSP seeks to bolster links in these fast-growing sectors.

Presently, the countries have a strong investment connection—over 200 Danish companies operate in India, and 60 Indian companies operate in Denmark. With India seeking a rapid energy transition, Denmark’s world-leading wind energy industry is well placed to make investments in Indian wind farms.

The Denmark-India partnership comes amidst a broader push for the EU and India to collaborate on climate concerns. As the two largest democratic regions seek to deepen ties in the long-term, they will likely reinforce their growing partnership at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference. Through the EU-India Connectivity Partnership, the EU is expected to commit greater investment in offshore wind and floating solar power, with possible financing from the European Investment Bank. The EU and India are also likely to invest in the electrification of transportation to make their robust railway systems more environmentally friendly.
