The Raisina Dialogue 2022 multilateral conference will conclude today in New Delhi, India.

Opened on Monday by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the meeting is India’s premier event for discussing the globe’s most pressing geopolitical and geoeconomics issues. With European foreign ministers and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in attendance, one of the dialogue’s main topics is the current Indo-European relationship and the future stability of the Indo-Pacific.

Despite tensions with Europe surrounding New Delhi’s relationship with Moscow, the conference is heavily revolved around India’s place as a friend of the West in balancing against China, particularly in discussions about expanding trade, investments, and protecting IT. Progress began on Monday, as Modi and von der Leyen agreed to institute the EU-India Trade and Technology Council, the first in India’s history, to strengthen the pair’s bond.

Anticipate these cooperation agreements to bring the two closer in the medium-term through centralizing joint political and operational decision making for the benefit of both economies, which will likely help India oppose Chinese encroachment on its neighbors, like Nepal and Sri Lanka. In the long-term, a stronger Indo-EU relationship may aid the West in deterring Sino-Russian aggression throughout Europe, Asia, and the Indo-Pacific.
