Apple concludes worldwide developer’s conference

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) concludes today.

The WWDC provides Apple with an opportunity to announce new products and software updates as well as new company policies and initiatives. This year’s edition of the WWDC  focused on artificial Intelligence, as Apple now joins Microsoft, Google, IBM, and Meta with the announcement of its AI model, Apple Intelligence.

Following Apple’s announcement, shares closed at a record high. It is another sign of what has been called the ‘AI Boom’, a period of rapid development of AI that has captured the attention of the general public, which spiked in 2023. The recent influx of AI systems including Open AI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Copilot, and Google’s Gemini comes amid. There have been wide concerns regarding misinformation presented by AI chatbots. Much of this is caused by chatbot ‘hallucinations’, which are technical breakdowns that cause AI chatbots to report incorrect information, presented as fact in the format of a reliable search engine. The federal government has had difficulty in its efforts to regulate AI, but some progress has been made in the creation of state oversight committees to review the progression of AI models. Given Apple’s popularity, the introduction of Apple Intelligence will likely generate more interest in AI regulation and oversight.
