The Official Jamaica 60 Diamond Jubilee Gala will be held today in New York City to celebrate Jamaica’s 60th year of independence.

The gala follows a week of independence celebrations all across Jamaica, which included grand military displays, speeches from dignitaries, theatrics with thousands of costumed performers, fireworks, a gospel concert, and drone performances.

The event, which seeks to bolster pride and community among the Jamaican diaspora, will feature notable guest speakers, including NYC Mayor Eric Adams who will deliver a keynote presentation titled “Reigniting a Nation for Greatness.” Other important attendees will include Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, along with diplomats and six individuals who will be honored for their work contributing to Jamaican development.

The gala will offer a means for attendees in NYC to contribute to important causes in Jamaica. Expect all proceeds to go towards fulfilling charitable goals—purchasing six dialysis machines worth $240,000, funding six scholarships for Jamaican students to gain tertiary education, supporting the Rose Town Foundation which facilitates development programs and provides interventions for violence-prone youth, and financing health centers that seek to reduce high incidences of non-communicable diseases.
