The next meeting of the Rammstein format will occur today.
The meeting of defense ministers from western-aligned nations aims to develop new strategies and initiatives to assist Ukraine in combatting ongoing Russian offensives. Ukraine recently requested additional supplies of heavy artillery to increase their firepower. To address this shortage, Rammstein participants are likely to increase their commitments to deliver more heavy artillery equipment.
Currently, Russia possesses the advantage with these weapon systems, which is exacerbated by shortages in ammunition on the Ukrainian side. Ukraine estimates that 200 additional casualties are sustained each day due to the current weapons capability gap. While several NATO nations were initially reluctant to deliver heavy artillery, the alliance is now mostly on board.
Delivering enough arms to Ukraine to achieve parity with Russia will take time and is only possible in the medium- to long-term due to the number of weapons required. Should Ukraine succeed in matching Russian artillery capabilities, its ability to engage Russian forces is likely to improve significantly. With its advantage in overall military capacity eroding, Russia is likely to intensify its offensive operations in an attempt to achieve significant gains before arms deliveries make a significant impact on ongoing operations.
