Direct flights between Georgia, Armenia to resume
Direct flights between Georgia and Armenia will resume today.
The reinstitution of direct flights between Yerevan and Batumi until mid-January highlights the deepening connectivity between Armenia and Georgia, providing a crucial link to the Black Sea.
This development underscores the importance of bilateral economic relations, which are anchored in geographic proximity. The bilateral economic relations between Georgia and Armenia are characterized by strategic geographic proximity and historical ties. Trade and energy cooperation are central, with Armenia relying on Georgia as a transit route for imports and exports, including access to Black Sea ports.
Medium term, Armenia is expected to advocate for better collaboration with Georiga due to its recent EU candidate status approval, making Tbilisi a key stakeholder and gateway for deeper economic relations with the EU. Long term, expect Armenia to come closer to Georgia for deeper economic integration and to overcome blockades, through multilateral agencies like the Eurasian Economic Union and the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA). However, the ongoing war in Ukraine is expected to continue straining diplomatic efforts as regional instability, while limited trade diversification poses additional challenges to sustainable economic development in Central Asia.
