The G7 foreign ministers will conclude a three-day meeting today focused on Ukraine.

The group gathered to discuss the progression of the war in Ukraine, energy and food security, relations with China, and climate change. During the summit, the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Moldova joined the meetings. Moldova is coordinating with the G7 as it fears it will the next target of Russian aggression.

Over the three days, the foreign ministers spoke about adhering to a coherent strategy to target Russia, by coordinating relief and military aid for Ukraine. In addition, foreign ministers of EU countries expressed that they hoped that Ukraine’s application to join the bloc would be approved soon. Germany’s parliament has agreed to send heavy weapons to Ukraine, so the German foreign minister also discussed Berlin’s role in the war, especially since Germany is currently chairing the G7.

Expect to see mutual defense and aid agreements for Ukraine come out of the summit. In addition, there might be additional steps that the foreign ministers will work towards with respect to China and to climate change, but most of the discourse will be about the impact of the war on the rest of the world. There might also be some clarity on what weapons Germany is willing to send to Ukraine.
