Representatives of the Normandy 4 countries to hold meeting
A video conference of advisers to the leaders of the Normandy format countries – Ukraine, Germany, France, Russia – will be held today.
The meeting is set to discuss future steps in the Donbas conflict settlement. Considering the Minsk peace agreements to end fighting in eastern Ukraine have yielded limited results, the Ukrainian government is working on an action plan to resolve the situation, which will be presented at the meeting.
The Action Plan for Donbas is expected to be developed using the proposals put forward at the group’s previous meeting, including commitments, such as prisoner exchange, withdrawal of troops and a renewed commitment to implement an existing ceasefire agreement in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region (Donetsk and Lugansk), as well as enhanced powers for international ceasefire monitors.
Considering Kiev’s growing list of issues with the Minsk format, expect Ukraine to suggest a revision of some of the measures within the protocol. However, the Kremlin and EU partners have displayed little appetite for revision, with the former insisting on the need to fully implement the previously agreed upon measures which could lead to delay in negotiations.
