SecGen of La Francophonie to visit Vietnam
Secretary General of La Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo, alongside a delegation of businesses from Africa, Europe and North America, will today begin her visit to Vietnam.
During Wednesday’s conference of La Francophonie – a grouping of mostly French speaking countries– Vietnam expressed the importance of economic cooperation within the community. Hanoi also presented Vietnam’s experience with fighting disinformation on its social media networks, consolidation of the legal system around the digital sphere.
As Vietnam sharpens its legal framework and a code of conduct on social networks, expect an increased presence of Francophone businesses in Vietnam’s digital economy landscape. Vietnam’s attempts to align more with EU regulatory efforts will encourage the establishment of European digital businesses in the medium term, given the lack of digital regulatory enforcement in other Southeast Asian countries and Vietnam’s free trade agreement with the EU. In the long term, expect these economic foundations to develop France’s position as an important player in the Indo-Pacific region.
