The second annual AI summit, co-hosted by South Korea and the UK, concludes today in Seoul.

Building on the sentiment of the Bletchley Declaration, some participating governments are pushing for widespread commitment to establishing human-centric, trustworthy and responsible AI development.  However, the UK and South Korea have adopted pro-innovation outlooks to AI, emphasizing self-regulation and continued growth, as they catch up to their rivals like China and the US. South Korea is in the process of investing USD $7BN in AI by 2027 and are continuing to developing cutting-edge semiconductor chips, key to fueling AI computing needs, in a bid to maintain step with market leaders such as China, Japan and the US. This includes a plan to open a semiconductor innovation center in Silicon Valley.

Should South Korea continue to innovate and self-regulate in the AI sector, expect its competitors, namely China and Japan, to push for further compliancy and policy adjustments that will aim to curb their growth within AI and related technology advancements. South Korea may attempt to continue growing within the sector in the short term, but with left-wing ascension in the opposition following their elections, South Korean policy may shift towards a more conservative and compliancy-driven approach to appease their global rivals and ease political tensions longer term.
