The United Kingdom will release a revised counter-terror strategy today, following the one-year anniversary of the London Bridge terror attack in which eight lost their lives.

Since last year the UK police say they have foiled 12 terrorist plots, and at any one time are running more than 500 live operations. Such a high level of activity has led analysts to place the country’s terrorist threat level as severe, in line with many other European countries which have seen various other attacks over recent years.

While the risk of terror in the country is increasing, UK officials have also cited a shift in the terrorist tactics of all ideologies—embracing social media and newly developed technologies to further their agenda. To combat this today’s revised strategy will push for more coordination between agencies, and further focus on right-wing activity—a growing threat across the country.

In the coming years expect the high risk of terrorism to remain as extremists continue to find success over the internet and ideologies become more radicalised. In response, the West will be forced to update their own counter-terrorism tactics, much like London today.
