Trump campaigns for GOP in Florida ahead of close senate and gubernatorial midterm elections
Just three days out from midterm elections in the United States, President Donald Trump will travel to the hotly-contested state of Florida to campaign for the GOP.
As November 6th approaches, the vote’s outcomes have grown increasingly predictable. Major forecasters, such as FiveThirtyEight, have Democrats likely taking control of the house and Republicans retaining control of the Senate. Florida serves as a keystone in these predictions, with six competitive house elections and a close senatorial race. The state’s gubernatorial race is also a toss-up.
Both parties have poured increasing resources into the historical swing-state over the past week, spending tens of millions. Indeed, while incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson seems to have a slight edge, former GOP Governor Rick Scott has spent more than $50 million of his own money to out seat him.
While last-minute campaigning can sometimes tip the scales, expect such a competitive state to attract outside donations on both sides in the final days, thus equalizing the playing field. If Republicans can withstand the Democrats’ push in Florida, however, expect the left to have a tough time seizing the Senate.
