Today, the Tunisian Armed Forces are participating in the annual US-Tunisian multi-component joint military exercise “African Lion”.

The event marks the 20th anniversary of the largest combined and joint exercise organized by U.S. Africa Command on the African Continent. The joint effort is expected to engage more than seven thousand participants from twenty countries, highlighting the commitment of the US to fostering cooperation in peace and security with Africa. The primary goals of field training exercises are boosting interoperability among participants and strengthening the Tunisian army’s capacity to handle cross-border emergencies and instability in the Sahel.

Besides military training, the program also includes components aimed at enhancing information and communication technology (ICT), cyber security, and real-world humanitarian civic assistance. The latter comprises the exchange of medical expertise between the United States and African countries, which plays a significant role in building a comprehensive partnership between nations. The cooperation between the US and the participating countries of “African Lion” is expected to remain at its current level, as Washington is focused primarily on the security architecture in Europe and the Middle East.
