President of Cambodia’s National Assembly concludes visit to Vietnam

The President of the Cambodian National Assembly (NA) Khuon Sudary concludes her visit to Vietnam today.

Her visit coincides with the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam-Cambodian diplomatic ties, and marks her first foreign visit after entering office in August. Sudary’s visit marks a new milestone in in bilateral ties, enhancing the traditional solidarity and demonstrating the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

Diplomatic ties between the two states have traditionally followed a stable trajectory with sustained co-operation maintained at various levels of government. Both states’ National Assemblies signed their first co-operation agreement in 2007 and upgraded it in 2022. Under this framework, both states have actively promoted cross legislative collaboration on legal policies aiding economic developments and fostering cohesion between their ministries and specialized agencies.

Given the frequency in the exchange of delegations and high-level meetings conducted by both nations in the past few months, expect both Hanoi and Phnom Penh to further expand the collaborative and co-operative mechanisms in the next few months. While both sides have maintained a comprehensive collaboration in trade, investment and tourism, expect more diplomatic gains within the domain of defence and other areas of common concern.
