Virtual G20 summit begins

India to host Virtual G20 Summit today.

On September 10, during the closing session of the G20 Summit in New Delhi, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, announced that India will host a Virtual G20 Summit before the Indian Presidency concludes at the end of November. The External Affairs Ministry of India announced that all G20 leaders, including the chair of the African Union (AU), governmental leaders and members of nine guest countries, as well as leaders of 11 international organisations have been invited to the virtual summit.

The virtual summit is likely to discuss the recent geopolitical tensions that have impacted the global economy. Individuals familiar with the virtual summit said that the Russia-Ukraine and recently the Hamas-Israel war will feature as topics of discussion. As seen in 2022, the Russia-Ukraine war had devastating effects on the global economy and the virtual summit could discuss efforts to curtail the Hamas-Israel war. The economic impact of the Hamas-Israel war could lead to significant effects, as the region is a crucial supplier of energy and a vital shipping passageway in global trade. A disruption could result in higher inflation and reduced global growth.
