XPeng, a Chinese smart electric vehicle manufacturer, will host its 2021 Tech Day today.

The chairman and CEO of XPeng, He Xiaopeng, will discuss the company’s strategic initiatives which include plans for the development of smart electric vehicles and flying vehicles. The event will also include a presentation on XPeng’s autonomous driving technology. In recent years, China has been eager to boost the growth of cutting-edge technology in the automotive space and has made a serious push to become the main destination for automated driving testing. By 2025, the country hopes to commercialize robotaxies, autonomous shuttles and self-driving heavy trucks.

Expect XPeng to continue to make major strides into the autonomous vehicle market. The presence and production of autonomous vehicles in China is likely to increase dramatically within the next 5 years, and XPeng is expected to play a role, if not a major one, in the sector’s expansion in the country. Currently, China is formulating their own standards for autonomous driving and providing different benchmarks for manufacturers in the market. In the long-term, expect China to look to export such next-generation vehicles abroad and establish itself as the world’s primary producer of the cars.
